Study Tour – Ireland

Take time out to see Shingo Recipients in Action, talk to the leadership teams who have deployed the Shingo Model and get an honest view of their successes and failures. The truly unique learning experience is delivered over four days visiting Irish-based companies leading the way in manufacturing best practices.

The Study Tour will kick off on Monday 24th February with an opening workshop delivered by the Manufacturing Institute to set the scene of the tour and to give the opportunity to meet fellow delegates. During the Study Tour delegates will visit, Mylan, Abbott Nutrition, Abbott Diagnostics. The tour will finish on Thursday 27th February with a closing workshop that will provide a forum to recap on the week and discuss the learning outcomes.

The Study Tour includes all travel between sites, accommodation, breakfast and networking dinner with a guest speaker.

Mylan

Our investments include an expanded research and development (R&D) capabilities in Dublin respiratory facility. ​

Abbott Nutrition

Abbott Nutrition have been developing science-based nutrition products for over 90 years because they understand that proper nutrition is the foundation for healthy lives. Their goal in developing these products is to support your patients through all stages of life, from infancy to childhood to adulthood and everywhere in-between, so that they are able to live the fullest life possible.

Product: The product portfolio includes the FreeGo pump and feeding sets and Gravity feeding sets along with their accessories, which allow patients to be portable during feeding

​Journey to date: Abbott’s Nutrition Supply Chain notes a number of significant improvements as a result of their transformation. The site’s batch right first-time rate has exceeded 99% since 2014, the number of non-conformity (CAPA) reports generated has reduced by 85% since 2013, and the site has been zero-waste to landfill certified since 2013. Plant capacity has increased by 62%, 100% of all employee training is completed on time, and cross-functional teams have reduced the cycle time by 57% since 2013

Abbott Diagnostics

Abbott’s diagnostics site in Longford manufactures diagnostic tests, also known as reagents, for distribution to hospitals and laboratories around the globe. Abbott’s Longford facility’s more than 300 employees design, develop and manufacture diagnostic tests to the highest standards of quality

Product: Its product portfolio includes tests for the detection of thyroid, fertility/pregnancy, cardiology, renal and metabolic markers.

​Journey to date: The Abbott Longford facility has reached a number of noted achievements, including more than 22 million euros in cost improvements; a reduction in non-conformance rate by 77%; the implementation of a system that decreased inventory holding by 10% and reduced manufacturing lead times by 38%; 3,454 lost-time accident free days; and a 23% decrease in energy usage in the last four years while increasing production output by 68%​Strengths: Performance Management System, Leadership (one team ethos), Group support central OPEX Function.
