Lean Experience Workshop & JLR Site Visit

The Manufacturing Institute proudly offers this Lean Experience Workshop in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover facilitated by Ken Jones, Operational Excellence Expert

The Lean Experience Workshop is not just a theoretical exploration of lean thinking. It’s an end-to-end peer group experience that combines practical tools, insights, and exercises. It also includes a site tour of the renowned Jaguar Land Rover plant in Halewood, Merseyside, providing a real-world context to the learnings.

This experience is designed for manufacturing leaders who want to champion ‘what good looks like’ with modern lean thinking. It offers practical problem-solving skills and foundational knowledge, around ‘Right First Time’ and frameworks that support the transformational behaviours required to build a sustainable culture of world-class organisational excellence. By participating, leaders can gain the tools and insights to drive their organisations towards operational excellence.

Standardisation, strategy alignment and policy deployment visualisation are vital for sustaining and improving business metrics. Our lean experience event shows how JLR has embraced digital transformation from traditional paper workgroup boards to Digital Policy Deployment (DPD) supported by live data KPIs on digital touch screen.

During the day, Ken Jones will introduce key lean tools and methodologies that eliminate waste and continuously improve processes, as well as the Shingo transformational framework and guiding principles. Workshop activities include practical exercises around workplace organisation, 5S and how to create a dynamic Kaizen improvement idea as well as :-

Including:

■ Standard Work
■ Daily Routines
■ Right First Time
■ PDCA
■ Problem-Solving
■ Strategy Alignment
■ Policy Deployment

The programme gives delegates the opportunity to see modern lean leadership in action, demonstrating the fundamental impact of standardisation, visualisation, and use of technology on manufacturing processes. Delegates will be able to speak directly to shop floor leaders in a real-time working environment, providing much greater insight into the culture and how lean methodologies drive successful businesses.

The Lean Experience Workshop is facilitated by Ken Jones, former Lean Learning Academy Manager at JLR, who says, “this experience not only provides attendees with a comprehensive overview of what good looks like but also informs why and shows how.”

The session finishes with Q&A and reflections, complimented by a demonstration of Land Rover products.

“The Lean Immersion programme provides an insightful and inspirational mix of classroom learning, peer networking and discursive reflection, practical exercises and tour of an outstanding example real workplace application of the core principles of Lean thinking” Adrian Healey, The Manufacturing Institute
